Elements and Performance Criteria
- Interpret between two or more community languages
- Facilitate resolution of differences between community groups
- Trust/respect of groups in conflict is secured and maintained
- Parameters of own behaviour established with each group
- Fair and non-provocative representations are made of each group's position
- Possible resolutions or compromises are explored
- Other community groups/organisations involved when opportune to help reach a solution
- Interpret/translate and explain department programs and requirements in a culturally meaningful way into a community language
- Meaning, purpose and status of program or requirements are explained in an appropriate language
- Concepts not directly translating into the community language are explained in terms of analogous community concepts and past experiences of European practice
- Interpretations supporting the programs and requirements are sought in traditional law and knowledge
- Internal community mechanisms are identified to help support departmental strategies and achieve compliance with departmental requirements
